This is an amazing project which is doing so much for the people in Haiti. Our Foundation has approved a grant to assist their immediate needs. Future donations are welcome and will help a lot.
Project History
Didi Ananda Jiivaprema, a Yogic nun from Spain, originally established a pre-k and elementary school about 20 years ago, and over time, constructed what is the current children’s center. About 16 years ago, she was requested by medical personnel to take in a new born baby who was severely malnourished and at risk of dying. Thus began the children’s home.
Over the years Didi has been contacted by local hospitals, and community members, asking her to take in one more child- usually babies in desperate need of a loving home. All the children have heart wrenching stories, but despite their shaky starts in life, without exception, they are now all thriving.
As the building was not initially designed to house this many people, the infrastructure is severely challenged, and recently the septic system and toilets have broken. With cholera, rampant in the area, having no working toilet facilities is a crisis for the home.
Project Mission
To offer a healthy, loving and safe home to children without families and provide a solid foundation. Our children’s home provides a safe, loving and supportive family for 34 children. These children come from a background of severe trauma, including hunger and malnutrition, abuse, neglect, homelessness, and most have no family. Music, art, yoga, meditation and love are provide a foundation of both healing and health for the children. Despite and violence and civil unrest gripping the city for the past few years, these kids are excelling in school and personal growth.l
The need:
The septic system failing at this time is more than we can manage, so we are seeking help to repair it.
